The word ‘Coffee’ has derived from Arabic word Qah’wa that originally mean wine. It is a beverage prepared from the seeds of a coffee plant, that a good amount of of the times are referred to as coffee beans. There are 2 species of coffee plants Coffea Arabica and Coffea canephora, the distinction between the two is, the latter species has forty to fifty % more of caffeine. Coffee is ready using different methods depending on the sort of coffee required plus the kind of raw material used. If the raw material is whole coffee beans then it needs to be grinded, the fineness of the grounds has major impact on the brewing, it helps to extract optimal quantity of flavor from the beans. There are 3 systems of producing coffee grounds for brewing.Â
Burr grinding whereby there are two elements crushing or tearing the bean with less risk of burning, they can either be in conical form or wheel shape, burr grinders with disk kind burrs grind faster than the conical burr grinder giving extra warmth to the coffee. Another technique is chopping which is used by nearly all of the grinders these days, Blade coffee grinders smash the beans with the blade at a faster speed giving finely smaller and larger particles of ground resulting in more warm coffee from the burr coffee and the last method is Pounding, if burr occasional grinder is simply not obtainable, it is acceptable to pound the coffee in a motar or pestle.Â
Antique Coffee Grinders are generally have a wood finish and are manually handled.
