HO Gauge Model Train

HO scale model train sets seem to be the most widely bought scale model trains worldwide. There is many kinds of out-of-the-box sets and parts of rolling stock, locomotives, and scenery made by different toy train makers. Compared to different model railroad scales, HO gauge scale model train sets come in a wide range of brand quality. High end HO scale model train sets much better manufacturing quality than other HO gauge model trains. Much of the market for model trains has low quality. Instead, certain HO scale model train makers focus on selling low cost scale model train tracks to the mass market of scale model toy train sets, rather than to the more discerning end of the hobbyist HO scale model train set market.

Beyond these model train sets are toy scale model trains which can be bought in different sizes that might fulfill the desires of different model train hobbyists and collectors. The most miniature scale model train sets have engines and cars that are solely an inch or two inches long as the larger scale model train sets can have cars each of which may be up to a meter in length. Even bigger scale model train sets can be substantial enough to be ridden.

The first toy railroads were not built with a specific size, ratio or scale. They were toys rather than miniature models of the full-size transport railroad systems. Over time, the realism of scale model trains got better plus standardization of specific model train set size, scale, and ratio improved. The normalization of toy railroad track width made interchangeable engines and cars possible. Although model trains are designed with a smaller size, scale, or ratio, these scale model trains are not exactly scaled. With many of the standardized scales of toy railroads, the ratio, scale, and size might not be adjusted for every part of the scale toy railroad. Because of the necessity of strength, some parts of the toy railroad could be constructed bigger than proportionate size.

Modern-day high volume fabricating techniques produce scale model trains that have notable beauty and realism. Modern scale model train sets may come with toy railroad engines; model train specialty train cars and rolling stock; toy train tracks, signals, and roads; and model train layout vehicles, figures, and buildings with model train layout hills and streams. Toy railroad scale model train track layouts can range from simplistic oval train tracks up to complicated train track layouts of imaginary or real places.

Electric toy railroads first appeared at about the turn of the twentieth century. Electric scale model trains most often utilize DC power. Electric train sets permitted speed control. Many current-day scale model trains use computer controls with the industry standard comand and control system called scale model train Digital Command Control — DCC.
